Powertec-Radical Challenge 2007
Powertec-Radical Challenge 2007
Brands qualifying was warm and sunny with a grid of Clubsports, Prosports and SR3’s.

All cars ran with no problems although Simon Tilling was a little enthusiastic going into Druids for the first time, going off into the gravel on cold tyres. He recovered though to top qualifying and the 1500 class with a time of 47.826.

Phil Jenkins was top of 1300 class with a lap time of 48.237. Andy Harwood was top of 1100 class with a lap of 51.448 and Jonathon Wright topped INV class with a lap of 47.944

Race 1
Simon Tilling (Prosport 1500) was on pole with Tom Ashton (SR3) next to him on the front row. When the lights went out Tom unfortunately, stalled, letting the whole field pass. He recovered one place by the end of lap one then progressively moved through the field to finish 4th overall.

By lap 6 Simon Tilling had created a gap to second placed Jonathon Wright (SR4) but the man on the move was John Ali (SR3) putting in good times lap after lap and in the process taking fastest lap. He first hunted down Jonathon Wright and then overtook Simon in a manoeuvre around the outside at Druids, to take the lead on the second from last lap, to take his first race car win.

Race 2

Tom Ashton started on pole and this time got way well, to pull out a good lead which he held until he had a mechanical gremlin on lap 20 to left Simon Tilling to take the win, but again, he was pushed very hard by John Ali.

There were good battles in all classes with everybody having a good race, none more so than Jon Watson in 1100 class in his first ever race meeting, taking first in class in his Slipstream prepared Clubsport.

The next Radical Challenge meeting is at Snetterton 13th May.
